Paisley Flower Earrings made from the ugly necklace I bought

One day I bought this pretty (ugly) necklace – sorry if anyonereading this acyually has this necklace…because I loved the paisley pendants on it.

While scouring Etsy for popular items I came across a shop that had pretty little earrings and I’m ashmed to say, I tried to copy them hoping I too, would sell them in my little electonic shop.

Paisley Flower Earring

Alas. They didn’t sell. Alas, even more, I didn’t really like them that much either. They didn’t really fit with my overall “aesthetic” of slightly kitchy goth inspired jewelry. So I played around with some uber lightweight silver chain I had laying around my fantastic imaginary castle, and came up with the Filigree Key Chained Heart Earrings – the vision you see before you.

From something plagerised came something Glamour Twinkley…

I’m spinning my wheels. My big scheduling plans are waning, with me doing random stuff without a plan.  Its the very epitome of spinning my wheels.  It looks like I’m going to have to do the thing I hate – making a …. gagging here …. plan.  (Wow, it actually took three tries just to spell that correctly…)  I hate planning.  At work this week they had us attend the second part of our Myers Briggs course.  If you’re wondering I am a Sensor first, Introverted personality type, with a high Judgement score.  My main weakness is not looking at the Big Picture, the “where are we going” crap, “hovering up high in a helicopter” as the tutors kept harping on about.  No, that is negative thinking, Twinkle,  Fly high in that danged helicopter.  This thinking also applies to my personal like,  But who cares about the future?  It never happens, right?  I like the here and now, the “where I am”ness of this minute. However, I am willing to take some baby steps.  I found a couple of websites on writing a jewelry business plan, and setting realistic goals. Sure I’ve read their electronic words but my Sensor is on overload!  It’s saying: What About Now?  Well, actually my head is literally aching.  Yep, I’ve had a painful headache since Saturday morning.  Not a hangover.  Probably goal fear(?!), which has pretty much made me waste my entire weekend doing something close to nothing (to quote Prince’s Raspberry Beret).

I had PLANNED on revamping my Etsy listings after looking at my very failed Media Ready photos.  Looks like I’ll be getting out the old light box and shoot my stuff properly.  I simply refuse to spend hours photoshopping my grey background pix to a mor presentable white background. In fact I’d rather work on my yucky business plan than sit here moving lighting increments on Picnik for the next few weeks until they shut up shop on 19 April.

I found and added a couple of unpublished Beaded Bauble rings in my Etsy shop and “planned” on updating some of the current listings.  As of Sunday 4.56pm I’d only updated my Yellow Beaded Bauble Ring.  You can play the game of: What has she done to the Listing? Compare Yellow to Blue Beaded Bauble Ring and see what changes I made.  This has turned into a rather boring unfunny post as my dumb headache is not buggering off.  Oh,but in good news I’m getting my hair cut on Wednesday so you know I’ll make some excuse to post a picture of the results here wearing something shiny I’ve made for myself.

Cold, rainy weekend makes for a busy photographer.  Making a very small dent in my media ready photos, I was shooting when the clouds flew over the sun.  Boy I have a lot of jewelry.  Everything else I’ve done this week has been more “behind the scenes”.  Work like updating tags, playing the SEO game (which is rather difficult), joining in the chit-chat on ATOC.  It’s been pretty hum-drum for me this week.  I’ve got a lot of reading to do to improve my sad Etsy stats, but in the meantime I give you my media ready white background high res photos.  Phew, what a mouthful.

Glamour Twinkles Jewelry - Avatar Butterfly

Initially I had starting taking plain ordinary photos.  I did not like them one little bit.  And then I tried to think of something another talented person would do, compare their imaginary style to mine and then step up my game.  The photos I’ve got here are imagery that I’d love to use but they may come across as “arty” and don’t give the reader a good view of my sparkle work.

These huge glass behemoths are my most favorite item to make. They’ve been around for a while.

Green and Black Chunky Charm Bracelet - Glamour Twinkles Jewelry available on Etsy

They began life as giant glass beads strategically placed on chunky chains. And then I had the idea of tendrils and torn lace. After putting together some corresponding coloured beads on thin gold-plated wire and carefully applied the delicate chains to the giant bracelets I loved them even more.

Unfortunately they aren’t really for working at the office. Just try and use your mouse without clanging around your desk. No, these noisy chandeliers are ready for the Red Carpet.

Hello.  I’m an online advertising Newbie who doesn’t like wasting money on things that don’t show results immediately.  The time has come for Glamour Twinkles to get her little act together and start advertising somewhere.  I had a rather depressing week just gone.  Etsy blog told us about Etsy Stats.  They are available on each item in each store as well as the entire store itself. It did not make for nice reading.  Sigh.

A Little Bit About Me

I’m a geek.  I love researching a range of options and printing out as much information as I can.  I have a memory like a sieve and forget about brilliant advertising ideas that I’ve studied as soon as another advertising idea pops into my head.  This has caused problems.  What if I spend a fortune (that I don’t actually have) on a pointless advertising system.  Facebook anyone?  I’m not a big Facebook fan. Sorry, I’m just not.  Sure I’ve got a Facebook page but it is a genuine struggle to remember to post stuff on it.  I’m too preoccupied with Twitter.  So I decided to finally bite the bullet and at least START to come up with some advertising imagery.  I went to my friends at Picnic to help me duplicate other jewelry adverts that I liked.

I Dream of Supermodels

You know, I never realised how much jewelry I have out there.  I have my favorite photos, and, studying my sad stats, chose popular items from my Etsy shop.  Then I had a brilliant idea!  I love my retro backgrounds but a bunch of them all together doesn’t really have a look I like.  You don’t need to tell me the problems with my above ads.  I’ll tell you.  Too big, too many photographic angle styles, some pics are cropped incorrectly.  Hey, Picnik is a free service so don’t knock the ‘nickers!! Below I present my very, very draft advertising idea:

Possible ad style for online advertising adventures. I dunno...

Because I have a range of different jewelry – from giant charm bracelets to delicate rings I decided that my ad should have a couple of different pieces in it.  I’m just not sure how expensive it will be.

The other thing I don’t know is how to create an ad that takes you to my shop when you click on the ad itself. Dunno what they’re called.  Dunno how you work out the size, dunno how you know if its working, dunno how much is too much to pay, dunno where is the best place for me to advertise.

These have been the things I Dunno.

We use them every day of our lives, but now we can adorn ourselves with them: the humble alphabet. How would we do the crossword? Texting? All great uses for letters. Until now.

Wooden Letter Blocks Ring by Glamour Twinkles Jewelry

Wooden Letter Blocks Ring: created with the idea of children’s letter blocks. I know they’re only small letters and don’t exactly bring toy blocks to mind but that was my thinking as soon as I saw the bag of beads sitting in the bead shop.

Alphabet Necklace by Glamour Twinkles Jewelry

Alphabet Rainbow Necklace: I so badly wanted to call these Sesame Street Necklaces. But I didn’t want the wrath of CBS or NBC or whoever brings us the letter T and the number 5. A few years ago a school painted an old toilet block, to brighten it up. They used a terrible looking reproduction of Donald Duck. SOmehow Disney found out and demanded the remove it. Donald has gone. I don’t want Glamour Twinkles to go out like Donald Duck did.

These are my ABC Earrings. They’re bright and colourful and lightweight. I just didn’t have enough ABC’s to make a big bunch of earrings so I started doing EFG earrings as well.

With Alphabet Jewelry you will never be lost for words.

How these little twinkle-twinkles beckoned me when I spied them in Living and Giving (would you believe). They were cunningly disguised as wine glass identifiers. You know those little thing-a-ma-gigs you stick on your wine glass when you’re at something. I don’t really know anyone who uses them but they must be popular somewhere…

Purple and Blue Glitter Ice Charmed Ring

So the original idea was to make a super blinging ring for my Sis for Xmas. A coouple of days after Xmas she came over to visit me and spotted another style Charmed Ice ring that I’d made. She took a liking to it and her presto, we swapped rings. Ironically, the ring she preferred I was keen on the ring she [referred and actually had is ready to pull apart and make something different with the components. How funny life is…

My Giant Skull Voodoo Necklace by Glamour Twinkles for Glamour Twinkles

Attack of the Craft on Thursday proved to be an enlightening experience. Firstly, I’ve never joined a message board thingamy (which should be patently obvious because I don’t know the correct web-terminology), and secondly because I read the thread warning me that Etsy have been closing shops causing sellers to LOSE all their information. That’s scary!
Although I only have a feeble sell rate I have invested countless hours on descriptions, photos, and tags. Not to mention tweets, business cards, Facebook etc.
As the panic rises in me, a fellow craftian on AOTC mentions the virtues of ArtFire and quick as a flash I’ve signed up for a 30 free trial.

My Gothic Pagoda Earrings - Yellow - by Glamour Twinkles for Glamour Twinkles

Don’t panic, ArtFire Glamour Twinkles is a virtual copy of Etsy just without the sword of Damocles hanging over my head. Needless to say you will soon be able to purchase my fun-filled glittery gems once I load everything on there. Naturally I’m still learning the “art of fire” and its intricacies but I’ll soon be up and ready to PR myself to high heaven.

In other Twinkle news, I was feeling a little despondent about my Trade Me listings not doing well when – Ding – iPhone tells me I made a sale.  Sure its one sale but its one more than last week.  (Thank goodness GTJ isn’t my only form of income…)

I’m sticking to my new routine, pretty much, but I’ve hit a couple of snags and those always send me into a temper tantrum.  I’m like: “stupid internet, I hate you”, or “dumb marketing catchphrase, why don’t you just pop into my head this very instant, I hate marketing…”  You know the sort of thing.  Needless to say I’m still working on my marketing e-course and I’m stuck on a brilliant line that sums up all the hours of work I do on my jewelry.  It’s a kind of a key selling point that I’m missing because every website, blog post, tweet and Facebook page entry should “speak to my business brand”.  When people say what do you do I say “I make jewelry”.  YAWN!  Me and everyone else on the internet.  I want to be able to say” “oh, I create a statement on mass consumerism refabulating it into the kind of jewelry your mother always warned you about”  Say, that sounds pretty good… That’s trade marked.  No one can use it!!  I’ll be checking.
This is Captain Glamour Twinkles signing off (artfully!)

What a feeling! I have had the most unboring, go-go gettum week.  I diligently stuck to my routine and oh boy, does it feel GOOD! It makes me wish I’d done this much sooner.

My B&W Feather Earrings by Glamour Twinkles

Highlights of my business week:

Media Monday: Had me actually reading the Handmadeology blog posts and discovered the joy of Hootsuite.  You probably all know about this incredible system where you can have all your Twitter lists, WordPress, Tumblr, Flickr and Facebook all in front of you at the same time.  Incredibly I’ve only just now experienced this.  Love…

Trade Me Tuesday: Listings ahoy.  I’ve some new items to my listings, and paying more attention to the categories I’m using on our little Kiwi auction site – where you can auction off your pesky Kiwi’s (hardy-har-har)

Etsy Wednesday: With my new skills in Hootsuite I now have a buttload of scheduled Tweets extoling the virtures of buying Glamour Twinkles Jewelry on Etsy. You know the routine…

Attack of the Thursday:  Actually, this didn”t work out so well but it wasn’t through any fault of mine.  It was the slow downloading Internet service that had me frustrated and resulted in me …. switching off my Netbook (shakes, cold sweats, turkey cold).  It was a very odd night.  I ended up doing a form of “market research” by reading old tattoo magazines … for researching where I could feasibly advertise Glamour Twinkles Jewelry (and get a new tattoo…..)

Photo Friday: Hello Internet, how I missed you my darling.  Lets never fight again.  Now this was a bit of a cheat.  I’m supposed to be updating Flickr and Facebook photo albums but after Thursday I wanted to catch up on the work I couldn’t do so I finally finished editing the 20 new pairs of Tattoo Earrings I’d shot months ago and never got around to finishing,   Plus darling Picnik is closing in April so I’m using that as a handy excuse for not strictly following my own new rules.  Hey, I’m a rebel, man.  Business or not!

Edit Saturday: This is a pretty vague day.  I mean editing?  Edit what?  Well, whatever I want.  It was the earrings photos… again… I have so many of those digital fiends. But I’m glad I’ve finally finished editing them.   The next step was sticking them into Etsy listings, as well as editing said listings to add to my scheduled Tweets so it all meshes together quite nicely.

Blogging Sunday:  Well, you’re reading it.   I’m also spending the day prepping draft Behind The Twinkle blog posts so I can “activate” them while I am work on Wednesday morning through my iPhone.  Man, how did the caveman ever manage without the unstoppable mobile phone?  And we were worried about Skynet.  Tisk tisk humanity. Ironically enough I’ve deleted virtually all of my iPhone reminders because having my Little Red Business Book at home and Little Black Business Book at work has been far more effective.  Sorry iPhone.

Strangely enough my new attitude is carrying over into my 9-5 corporate job (well 8.30-5.20pm actually).  I’m pretty busy there as well and achieving mucho taskology.  Added that so you’d know it’s still me writing these posts.  I mean I’m still me.  Just a more efficient me.

Red Skull Open Star Silver Tooth Voodoo Earrings - now available on Etsy

Skulls, keys and feathers equals Voodoo to me. It probably has absolutely NOTHING to do with voodoo but I’ve watched “Skeleton Key” a dozen times and I’m sure I can connect all the jewelry components into this pair of Voodoo earrings (based on Hollywood stereotypes). Here goes:

So, if you haven’t seen the move I’ll briefly explain the story – sans spoilers. Kate Hudson moves into big New Orleans mansion to look after old English dude playing mute guy. No mirrors in the house and the old guy wife seems way too bossy for Kate and Kate hooks up with the old lady’s cute you lawyer friend. it rains, old lady casts spell on Kate and they have some mirror shenanigans. Se No spoilers. The story doesn’t make much sense either but my point was no spoilers. So, back to the earrings connection:

A Voodoo spell is cast using A Feather; my Voodoo earring contains a feather.

Kate finds some skull type stuff in the attic whilst snooping; my earring has a scary skull bead.

Kate steals a key to break into the attic; my earring has a key.

Kate goes to the gas station in New Orleans and sees dried alligator bods; my earring has an allegator a dangerous faux fang.

New Orleans has above ground graveyards; my earring has a cross on it. It all makes for a cohesive ear adornment.
