You have, no doubt, noticed a lack of exciting new posts here on my WordPress blog.
Well, the time has come to say good-bye. Now, dry those teary tears. I’ll still be online. I’m just not feeling WordPressy these days.
It’s not you, it’s me. People change. We grow old and lazy. We can’t live a lie. Well, not a lie exactly. I’ve enjoyed my time here on WordPress. I’m just more suited to Tumblr.
Yes, I’ve been seeing someone else. I know you’re hurting now but you’ll meet someone new. Someone who deserves you. Someone who won’t let you down like I have. This will be better for both of us. We leave as friends. Friends I’ve never met ….
Click this pretty little link to take you over to my new hang-out Sparkling Candy on Tumblr. See? Nothing’s changed.
Lazy picture post this week peeps. Presenting some of my classic Glamour Twinkles Jewelry pieces modeled by Manne the Mannequin. Please like her shots. She charges thousands per day. She once told me she wouldn’t get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day. Bare faced cheek.
Don’t forget if you see something you’d love to buy, you can email me on email@example.com. I accept PayPal and it is SUPER easy to send me a quick email if you see something you like. You’ll pay exactly the same price as I have in my Glamour Twinkles Jewelry Etsy store, but is saves you from having to join Etsy.
Oh cruel, cruel world. You are an unkind mistress. Well, not the world. But the business world. Remember the post I wrote about my Glamour Twinkles Citizen Rosebud Earrings called Coming Up Roses? Oh I worked on those little earrings. They are cute. But they don’t exactly scream QUIRKY do they? No. If I’m being perfectly honest they do not scream anything. They’re more like “ummm, hi, I’m a little cute earring. I may not scream “quirky” but I’m a hypoallergenic cutiepie.” Yawn. They don’t really fit in with the quirky misfit aesthetic I’m creating.
So my dear faithful readers I have a very special offer for you. It’s a way of thanking you guys for Liking my oft-maligned Glamour Twinkles Jewelry Facebook Page. I got a huge bunch of Likes after my post last Sunday and I wanted to say Thanks and ….. give away of these really pretty but not misfit-like earrings.
When you order ANYTHING from my Glamour Twinkles Jewelry Etsy store you will receive a FREE pair of Citizen Rosebud Earrings. The little studs you see flashing before you will be included as a free gift when you make an order from my Etsy store. Now, I only have 17 pairs available – because that’s all I made – so you will need to be quick. And the offer is limited to one pair per customer while stock lasts.
I like these earrings but we live in hard times. And image is all important. And these dinky hypoallergenic earrings don’t fit my misfitish aesthetic. So they must go. To a loving home. Where they can run around in the long grass. And sleep in a warm basket with their new family. Hang on, that’s what a new pet would do.
SPECIAL OFFER FOR A LIMITED TIME – ONLY 17 PAIRS AVAILABLE
So you guys are the first to hear about my special offer – if you order something from my Glamour Twinkles Jewelry Etsy shop you will receive ONE free pair of Citizen Rosebud Earrings OR Mini Rosebud Earrings. This offer is only valid PER PERSON not per item ordered. Stock is Limited to 17 Pairs so get in quick.
I’d love to offer this on my Facebook page but I’ve Googled “giveaway” and “Facebook Page” and I’m reading a lot of “page closed down” articles. There will be a link to this post on my Facebook Page. My nice and shiny Facebook Page. And don’t forget to “Like” Glamour Twinkles Jewelry on Facebook so you can keep up with all my fun time activities and sales and specials and stuff.
And thanks for the “Likes” last week.
For so long I neglected you because it was too hard.
Being around you just hurt me too much. But then
you offered an unexpected helping hand and,
I think I’m falling for you.
No, my blog hasn’t been hacked. But I have rediscovered Facebook. And I’ve been so wrong about it.
It all went down like this:
A long, LONG time ago I merrily updated my iPhone for iOS4. Oh, we all remember how the worlds’ servers went on a massive go slow. Chuckles at the memory of that. when we all still loved Apple and St Steve was at the helm. And the next day at work I went for my morning tea break. I checked my email and lo, I have a new follower on LINKTwitter. I click the link as their tweepie profile looked interesting and I’m asked to login in. Then it happened:
Login screen wafts into view; type in username, fix spelling mistake, retype username; type in password…..
Unable to login. Please try again
Repeat process above….
Unable to login. Please try again
Repeat process, getting a little concerned…
Bugger. Try again. I won’t bore you. Suffice to say for the past loooooooong while I couldn’t log into anything unless it had an app. Very frustrating but I managed. Thank goodness so many online entertainment outlets have apps these days. I got so excited about the Etsy app for this very reason.
Dateline: Monday, 17 March 2013
Cut to Monday afternoon: I want to add my Glamour Twinkles FB page to my mobile Hootsuite app. So I read the Help instructions. They say: login to Facebook to add it as a steam on your mobile device.
Actually my language was a little more colorful than “crap” but you get the idea. Oh well, lets give it a try. Still thinking bad language and dark thoughts about flinging phone across the room. Please login to Facebook……. waiting, waiting, agonizing waiting.
To enable login go to Settings : Safari : accept cookies
Wha? WTF’s that?? I think. I do what it says. Go back to Hootsuite, login to Facebook. Wait! I JUST LOGGED IN TO FACEBOOK! I couldn’t believe it. Facebook. The very place I have hated with a passion. FACEBOOK JUST FIXED MY IPHONE!!!! I was now back in with the cool Facebook peeps…
Oh the sun was shining (actually it was raining but I love he rain so I’m happy), I had a lot of catching up to do.
First, tweet my joy.
Next go to my page. Ooooooh, not looking real good. My photos hadn’t been updated, the blinking Etsy app wasn’t supported anymore. Not pretty. Thank crap I didn’t send anyone there! Sheesh!
So I went about reacquainting myself with the world of Facebook Pages. I’m still not entirely on board with the platform but I’ve been having a pretty good time jazzing up my page. And that is what I’ve been doing this weekend. Naturally, I was distracted with reading instructions on how to add Pinterest to my page that I thank So You Want To Be A Blogger with all the great tips. Now I have a sexy new background pic created using PicMonkey, I was introduced to the wonder that is Woobox for my Instagram tab, which helped me to add an Instagram feed AND helped me add a Pinterest tab. Adding my Etsy shop was a bit more complicated. But now I am a fully fledged member of the FB community
Now I’ve just got to get into the habit of posting stuff on there. Between you and me, I’m being slightly carefully on FB. I mean, you never know how you’ll offend someone by saying something about a news story that annoyed me, or a funny link that I want to share- that might not be so funny to Facebookers. I’ll keep that sort of thing for Twitter. Plus my Mum is on Facebook. Nuff said, I think. Hi Mom!!
So, I’m leaving it up to you if you want to go and look at ALL the hard work I’ve slaved over this weekend, or not. I’ll be fine. No extra FB Likes won’t mean anything to me (I’m totally lying, pleeeeeeeese Like my Facebook page. Last time ask for FB Page Likes, ever. I promise. This is NOT that sort of blog).
Let me know what you think of my page, by all means.
What a strange place this Internet can be. Full of strange people, looking for other strange people so they can revel in their strangeness. My kind of strange. I love the strange, the odd, the quirky, the misfits of the world. These are my people. We seek out and share our oddball acquisitions and we look for more weirdness to add to our already “weird” existence.
These people speak to me.
We don’t want to have the same things as everyone else. No one wants to blend into the crowd. We like weird. And weird likes weird.
I’ve always been the weird one. And people tell me this a lot. And (weirdly) it doesn’t bother me. I know I’m weird.
For some weird Glamour Twinkling reason I tried to hide the weird, making jewelry that was nice, non-offensive and, well “not so interesting”.
But I’m coming back to the weirdo inside. The weird will not be hidden for the strange few. You readers know about my weird and now I’m unleashing the weird, the “alternative”, misfit-oddball-kooky for all the world to see.
My quirky button has been pushed people!
I’m also forging on with my social media campaign – in my own odd little way – and so far it has been good: I’ve got a bunch of new followers on Instagram; @StyleList favorited one of my Tweets (Nicki Minaj make-under and she looked stunning); I had a pile of Likes and reblogs on my Sparkling Candy Tumblr blog.
And don’t think I’ve forgotten about actually making new Glamour Twinkles pieces: I’ve got a new range of Glittering Rings coming out very soon – I’ll be posting a sneaky peak of the full on glitter on my Glamour Twinkles Jewelry Facebook Page – yes, I’m going to start utilising the much maligned FB page.
I needed a break. I spend my day in the office doing office stuff. But I needed a break from office stuff. So I took a break on Friday and I will be taking another break on Monday.
I pretty much sat on the couch and ate chocolate.
Of course I didn’t. How boring would that post be: ate a Moro bar – delicious. Gobbled down a Mars bar – out of this world; treated myself to a Luxury Flake – the crumbliest flakiest chocolate in the world. Why am I so fat …
I worked my way through every single cameo ring I created over the last two weekends. I’ve also organized a big fat bunch of new items for listing. Lookie…
Why am I rushing to do all these listings? Because it is time. Time I pulled finger and got busy marketing. But I can’t do that with the old jewelry designs in my Etsy shop. So I made something new, I designed something far more market friendly. I designed The Last Remains.
Bumper sale week this week at Glamour Twinkles. I sold four pieces. FOUR! I don’t know what I did but clearly I’m doing it right!!
I’ve quit my job, booked a holiday, gone crazy on my credit card and written a bunch of lies in this blog post, starting with quitting my job, booking a holiday and crazy credit card expenditure. I am feeling pleased with myself though.
Three of the items sold were from my Green is Good Sale – which is still going strong BTW. Running my own digital empire affords me the luxury of extending a sale that had no definite end date. It will end. I think it will finish on Wednesday.
I’ll need to prepare my shop for the next sale – perhaps another colour. Preparation is the key. I don’t know what other Etsy sellers do for their sales but I’ve got an interesting method.
I copy an existing listing, I add ON SALE to the title, add a Sale tag, add a line about the sale price compared to the normal price, and then save that new listing into my Sale Shop Section. I’ll write a Behind the Twinkle post, and once I’ve deactivated the current listing and activated the sale listing I’ll sprinkle links to the items on my Wednesday post. There’ll be lashings of on sale Tweets, a bit on Facebook and crisp photos on Instagram. Voila.
I’m sure there is a much easier way of having a sale on Etsy but I’d have to make all those changes to the listings when I put them back in my shop. Too hard. I am, essentially, a lazy person as well as being somewhat forgetful so remembering to put all those listings back to their normal state seems like hard work.
With my method, I just have to deactivate the sale items, reactivate the “normal listings” and Bob is my Uncle.
Trendhunter – I want to try something different t to get “Likers” on my Facebook Page from this blog. I guess I could harass peeps that like my blog posts, inviting them to “Like” my Facebook. Did you know it takes 7 attempts before someone will notice your ad or Etsy link or post… It’s one of the lessons from my marketing mentor Andreea Ayers.
In other news, I’ve been reading a great little magazine from the people who bring us Trendhunter, called “Exploiting the Chaos” that you can download for the handsome price of ONE TWEET – giving you a doc-chock full of people who made it against the odds. Did you know that Fortune mag came on the market during the Depression? Me either. It’s full of info and factoids that made me go: hmmm, things that make you go hmmm, hmmm, hmmmm – got that song in ya head now, doncha?
So, back to Likers vs potential customers. Yes, that’s what I was getting to in the opening paragraph. I don’t want to offer free jewelry if you Like Glamour Twinkles Jewelry, I want something quirky, kitschy and more Me-Like (pun most certainly intended). Something’ll come to me.
I’d been feeling a bit guilty because I thought I’d been in new business rethink mode for the past 2 years but I realised it’s only been since last September – I found an old Fishpond book purchase receipt in my old emails. It was for my Fishpond order of How to Make Money on Etsy by Timothy Adams, and it was dated 15 September 2011. Not that bad – knowing how S L O W L Y I generally work on any Glamour Twinklesy related tasks that I loathe doing (FB, I’m talking to you now).
In keeping with my new media-mindedness (have you seen my media friendly photos?) I’ve decided to do something somewhat creepy, in a market savvy way. I don’t know about you but I have some Twitter people who have become TwitStars to me. They are all creative people, living the dream of spending much of their working time creative fantastic jewelry, modelling the coolest of street wear, and are generally pretty cool people (to me). But I want to know how they made it this far. What does a typical week in the life of one of my TwitStars involve? Brilliant Idea#253 stalk their businesses online (see, creepy behaviour).
- Do they blog, how often.
- Do they Tweet/Facebook/Tumblr? How often?
- Where do they advertise? How many sales do they have?
- What’s their ratio of “Likers” to sales?
It’s all very interesting to me and I will enjoy learning about their business ventures online. Yeah, its kinda creepy.
